Shelle Rose Charvet is a globally recognised communication expert, bestselling author, and pioneering trainer in the field of influencing language and interpersonal influence. With a career spanning more than three decades, she has specialised in helping individuals, leaders, and organisations understand how people think, make decisions, and how to adapt communication to create connection, reduce conflict, and improve outcomes across business, coaching, sales, leadership and negotiation contexts.
Born with a deep interest in human behaviour and communication, Charvet’s academic foundation is rooted in the social sciences and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). After immigrating to Paris in the early 1980s, she began her formal study of NLP and subsequently started a career as a communication trainer and consultant, working fluently in English, French and Spanish for international organisations including IBM, UNESCO, the OECD, the European Parliament, the Bank of France and CERN.
Charvet is perhaps best known for her seminal work on language patterns and meta-programs, articulated in her outstanding book Words That Change Minds: The 14 Patterns for Mastering the Language of Influence. Originally published in the 1990s and expanded in later editions, this book presents a framework based on the Language and Behaviour Profile (LAB Profile), which decodes how people construct meaning and make choices based on underlying mental filters. By identifying and matching these patterns, communicators can consciously adjust their language to resonate with different individuals and groups — a capability that has made the book a foundational text in coaching, leadership, negotiation, sales, and complex organisational communication. It has been translated into multiple languages, used in university programmes, and recognised by Forbes as a best management book, reflecting its influence beyond NLP practitioners into mainstream leadership thinking.
In addition to her writing, Charvet is the founder of The Institute for Influence and Success Strategies, through which she delivers training, keynote presentations, and consulting to clients in more than 30 countries. She has also served as the founding President of the Canadian Association of NLP and holds advanced professional speaking credentials, including induction into the Canadian Speaking Hall of Fame and recognition by the Global Speakers Federation.
Throughout her career, Charvet has created a suite of tools and techniques to enhance credibility, rapport, influence and conflict resolution. Her work shows that effective communication is not about what you intend to say, but about how the other person experiences your message — a principle at the heart of Words That Change Minds and her broader contribution to influence science.
